CareFit-DSAD (Caregiving and Fitness in Down Syndrome related Alzheimer’s Disease)
Overview
We are looking for adults with Down syndrome (age 35+) and their caregivers (age 18+) to join a research study to help us learn how a supportive caregiver training class and Zoom group exercise classes can help older people with Down syndrome and their caregivers.
Adults with Down syndrome will attend 3 Zoom group exercise classes a week to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. These classes are specially designed for adults with Down syndrome to help them stay strong as they get older. Caregivers can also attend these as well. Caregivers will attend one Zoom group class a week to learn about caring for someone with Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease. The study is 12 weeks long. We will measure physical activity, physical strength and caregiver outcomes at the beginning and end. There is no cost to join the study, and participants will be compensated for their participation.
