Metabolic Health, Lifestyle, and Risk of Co-Occurring Health Conditions in Down Syndrome (MET-DS)
Overview
We are looking for children and young adults with Down syndrome (ages 6-24) to join a research study to help us find better ways to prevent, detect, and treat health problems in people with Down syndrome earlier, supporting healthier lives. Participants need to have a support person, such as a parent or guardian, to complete the study with them and be present at study visits.
Participants take part in study activities at the University of Kansas Medical Center once a year to help researchers learn more about their health and daily life. Activities include: questionnaires about health, lifestyle, and daily routines; a medical exam; thinking and memory games; giving blood or saliva samples; and sleep and activity tracking.
Requirements
- Age 6-24
- Have a diagnosis of Down syndrome
- Primary language of English or Spanish
- Have a support person who is willing to attend the study visits and answer questions about the participant (study partners must be at least 18 years of age)
- Willing to travel to KUMC facilities for study assessments
What is provided
- Reports about your health, including sleep and activity
- Compensation for your time and travel
